COREL DREAM  3D Basic Training
Welcome to the Corel Magazine Dream 3D Course
Feel free to browse any lesson or download any portion of it.

The lessons are geared to be self paced. Take your time with it as there is no hurry. You will note at the bottom of the lesson page that there are a number of .avi animation files in PKZIP format that you can download if you wish. Each zip file contains an animation of the Dream command usage described in the table for the zip file.

There is no need to download zip files if you understand and have no problems with a particular section.

We have made every attempt to be complete with this course so that nothing is missing to inhibit your development. If at any time you have a question, please write immediately. This is a correspondence course and one of our instructors will respond to you quickly. Send any questions or comments to daveb@corelmag.com.

Lesson One:  Basic Menu Structure and 3D Object Creation and Placement

This lesson may well be the dullest of the entire course. It is unavoidable as we must go through the general layout of CorelDream as well as the items on a number of menus.

Once you have gone through this lesson, though, you should know the basic ins and outs of CorelDream, as well as how to create basic 3D objects, place them in space and render them. You will also know how to create 3D text objects, and to set up basic lighting control to render them.

Lesson Two: Free Form Objects.

A long chapter, but very important as it addresses the fundamentals of building objects. You will learn how to create Free Form objects, modify cross section outlines, create and edit sweep paths, create and modify 3D text, and use free form presets such as torus and spiral.

Lesson Seven: Rotation and Alignment;  Using Cameras
The first part of this lesson deals with the object alignment controls and dialog box. You will learn how to align objects on any or all of three axes, by center point, hot point, greater or less edge, as well as distribute objects and/ or uniformly and exactly space them.

The second part of this lesson deals with the default camera and additional cameras. Tools for panning, dollying are discussed. Locking cameras on objects is demonstrated, as are techniques to save views for later reference, and determine exact outline of final render before rendering.

LESSON EIGHT:  More Free Form Editing including ROTATE command and LATHING.  Using 3D Paint.
This lesson is in two parts. The first part deals with additional Free Form object editing, including the use of the ROTATE command on cross sections, and the LATHING technique of object construction. As an exercise you will build a candle holder.

The second part introduces the 3D paint tools. After explanation, you will use these tools to apply a 3D paint decal to the candleholder created in the first part of this lesson.

LESSON TEN:  IMPORTING AND EXPORTING 3D FILES:  In this lesson you will learn how to work with object in the object browser. You will see how to build new categories to add to your object browser and how to save files appropriate for the browser. The lesson also discusses transfer methods to take files from CorelDraw to Dream3D and vice versa and to take files from other common 3D software for use in Dream. The lesson also looks at the use of PhotoPaint and the Blur tool to help refine images

LESSON ELEVEN:  ANIMATION In this lesson you will find that everything and anything in CorelDream 3D can be animated including regular objects, text, lights, cameras and even backgrounds. The two basic forms of object movement for animation will be discussed: Linear motion is movement in one or more axes in a straight line; Rotational movement, which include ROLL, PITCH and YAW, is movement around a defined center point. To end the lesson you will animate a "fly through" of an airplane over a 360 degree obstacle course.
