New Keilor East Leisure Centre Complete

Moonee Valley City Council officially virtually opened its newest MOVE Leisure Centre in Keilor East on Friday, 1 October with the building now complete.

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Cam Nation, said the opening of the new state-of-the-art centre is a significant milestone and is looking forward to members taking advantage of the facilities when restrictions ease.

“We are incredibly excited to present this state-of-the-art facility to our community,” Mayor Nation said. “This is Council’s largest ever capital works project and we’re thrilled to see this impressive leisure centre come to life and provide something for the community to enjoy out of lockdown."

The new aquatic and fitness centre, built with support from the State Government, includes a 50-metre heated outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor lap pool, learn to swim pool, dedicated warm water program pool, spa, steam room and sauna, indoor water playground, café and seating area, gym, group fitness and spin studios, childcare and accessible family change rooms.

“Council is looking forward to welcoming the community to our new centre in line with the national roadmap and a community celebration will be planned when it is safe to do so.”

The uncertainty of the pandemic has taken a toll on many Moonee Valley residents and Mayor Nation says a facility like Keilor East Leisure Centre is of significant importance for many as restrictions ease.

My MIL (mother in law) had her birthday recently. And we needed to get her something special, considering how much she spent on our kids last Christmas  🤣

So armed with that info we decided that a metal print of our family photo would be a great gift.

Our lovely friend Alfred took a really great picture of us that we adore, so we decided to use that.

The reason we choose an metal print is because its made of durable aluminium. It has a special coating that provides a superior finished product that won't rust or fade. The print is extremely durable. 

Through enquiring with the printer we learned a little about the process. The metal prints are made through a gas process that embeds your image to the substrate. This process is better known as Dye Sublimation.

The end product was a very vivid, high-quality image. And I'm sure it will stand the test of time. I heard its rated for 60+ year life expectancy, so with a little TLC it should outlast my partner and I LOL

I have been working on teaching my kids to floss properly.

For any parents out there, you know there may be some resistance to this.

Especially with my son... his idea of brushing his teeth is spending 10 seconds rummaging his brush around his mouth. SO you can imagine how flossing is going so far 🤣 

Anyways I found this step by step flossing procedure guide online which was really helpful. Here's some of the tips:

To receive maximum benefits from flossing, use the following proper technique:

• Starting with about 18 inches of floss, wind most of the floss around each middle finger, leaving an inch or two of floss to work with

• Holding the floss tautly between your thumbs and index fingers, slide it gently up-and-down between your teeth

• To remove the floss, use the same back-and-forth motion to bring the floss up and away from the teeth
  
• Use clean sections of floss as you move from tooth to tooth

What Type of Floss Should I Use?

There are two types of floss from which to choose:

• Nylon (or multifilament) floss
• PTFE (monofilament) floss

Nylon floss is composed of many strands of nylon, which may sometimes tear or shred as you floss.

Single filament (PTFE) floss slides easily between teeth, and is very tough (mean its difficult to tear/shred).

When used properly, both types of floss are excellent at removing plaque and debris. As long as you use the correct technique, both types of floss are effective at preventing tooth decay.
